This creative workaround allowed Ferrari and Philip Morris International (PMI) to comply with global tobacco advertising bans while maintaining brand association.

Controversy and Legacy

In 2010, the European Public Health Commissioner criticized the remarkable marketing prouesse as “subliminal advertising.” Although Ferrari denied any wrongdoing, they ultimately removed the design. They replaced it with neutral graphics, a move that marked the end of an era and foreshadowed Ferrari's later branding efforts, such as the Mission Winnow (MW) campaign, which was also debunked.
